Essex County Candidate Nominating Petitions
Candidate Nominating Petitions for all County Offices (County Executive, Freeholder, Clerk, Register, Sheriff and Surrogate), as well as petitions for Independent Candidates seeking office, are available at the Office of the Essex County Clerk
Candidates who have filed a nominating petition also need to file copies of their New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission Reports with the Office of the Clerk. These reports contain information about campaign contributions and disbursements and are due on the following dates:
- 29 days prior to election day
- 11 days prior to election day
- 20 days after election day
2009 Important Dates for NJ Candidates
October
October 21: Filing of Appointments or Applications for Challengers.
The appointment of or application for challengers shall be filed with the county board on or before this date.
November
November 3: General Election Day
Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
November 18: Recount Applications to Judge of Superior Court.
Applications for recount of votes cast for a candidate at the general election shall be made on or before this date.
