GOP's Christie says he'd focus on taxes, spending

September 9, 2009

PARAMUS, N.J. - Republican Chris Christie says he would run New Jersey without concern for whether he could get re-elected.

The gubernatorial candidate said in a broad policy speech Wednesday that he would reduce spending, lower taxes, fix cities and their schools and increase state funding for public universities.

His speech at the Paramus Elks Lodge came after a stretch where his campaign has been mired in accusations that he used his former job as U.S. attorney for political purposes.

In his effort to return to issues, he laid out a list of what he sees as his top priorities.

He has not said exactly how much he'd cut spending, or where , or how much he'd try to reduce taxes.
